A state-of-the-art lifeboat, the CCGS Cap Percé has a flying bridge allowing better visibility and low
freeboard so casualties can be recovered from the water more easily. Its speed, great manoeuvrability
and ability to navigate in difficult weather conditions also make it very versatile during search and
rescue operations. In fact, one of its characteristics is its ability to right itself when capsized, even if
the wheelhouse is flooded.
The crew, which includes a commanding officer, an engineering officer and two leading seamen, must be
ready to respond to any distress call within 30 minutes. During its operational season, the CCGS Cap Percé
provides coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week with two rotating crews.
From time to time, the CCGS Cap Percé can also be called on to take part in operations related to aids
to navigation, environmental response and maritime security. It can also support Fisheries and Oceans
Canada scientific programs and surveillance operations.
