The Canadian Coast Guard and Transport Canada - Marine Sector, especially its Operations and Environmental Program Branch work in close collaboration to ensure navigation safety and protection of marine environment.
While Transport Canada works to regulate, promote and enforce safe and sustainable marine practices, the Canadian Coast Guard ensures safe transit of vessels, maintenance and marking of navigation channels as well as the broadcast and publication to mariners, of navigation safety information.
The most frequent collaboration takes place with the Navigable Waters Protection Program in the domain of notices to shipping broadcast and publication, the Environmental Protection Division in the domain of pollution prevention, and the Office of Boating Safety to ensure the safety of small craft operators.
