I am a college student whose study session ends in late May. One of the IRB program requirements is participation in a training period in mid-May. Would I still be eligible?
Yes. You would still be eligible for the program. Once selected (if such is the case), you may ask your educational institution to grant special permission to write your exams earlier or later than scheduled so that are available for the training period.
The IRBP work season ends on Labour Day. However, my studies resume around mid-August. Does this mean that I am penalized for not being available all the way to the end of the season?
No. You would not be penalized. Students simply provide us with the date on which they resume their studies in the fall, and they are released from the program on the agreed date. Their positions on the work teams are filled by other students already working in the program.
When registering for the IRB program, may I apply for a job even if I do not have all the required certificates?
We prefer that you telephone us so that we may determine the elements that are lacking in your file and agree together on how you may complete the training required so as to not be penalized.
I am 17 years old and would like to apply for the IRB program. Am I eligible?
If you satisfy the Public Service Commission and of the Canadian Coast Guard selection criterria, you may apply for a job prior to the closing date.
The last few years, I have worked for the IRB program in another region. If I were to apply to a different region, would I be required to go through the appraisal process again?
Since the employment agreement is valid for one season only, you would need to re-register the following season and meet the criteria of the region to which you submit your application.
I live several hours away from the rescue stations. Do you provide students with accommodation?
The rescue stations in the Québec Region are not equipped with student accommodation facilities. Once the training period begins, students working at the same rescue station generally make arrangements to meet their lodging requirements in a given region or exchange information on low-priced lodging.
I note that the deadline for applying for a job under the IRB program has passed. May I still submit my application?
Once the application deadline has passed, the Public Service Commission does not provide the Canadian Coast Guard with any other applications for the job in question.
If my application is not retained, may I still register for the CCG training period and pay the participation costs?
Students whose applications are retained and who are enrolled in training period do not pay to participate in it. No additional students are admitted, either as auditors or as participants.
