Students Employment Program

Are you looking for an exciting job ?
Inshore Rescue Boat Service

For the past 36 years, the Canadian Coast Guard has been pursuing its Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) Service. As part of the summer 2012 program, it is recruiting students to work within a Search and Rescue (SAR) unit.

If rescue, navigation and enhancing public awareness of accident prevention interest you, this job is for you. But it's not just a mere job…it's a chance to belong to a dynamic Canadian Coast Guard SAR team!

Becoming a member of a search and rescue team involves meeting certain eligibility, passing an interview and then successfully completing a 16-day training program given in Québec City in mid May. During the training period, you'll meet and learn from some great people, acquire techniques and learn to use sophisticated equipment.

Once your training is successfully completed, you will be assigned to one of six Inshore Rescue Boat stations in Québec Region: Bainsville (Ontario), Pointe-aux-Anglais, Beaconsfield, Longueuil, Sorel or Trois-Rivières. Using a boat and specialized equipment, you and your team will respond to all sorts of incidents: disabled vessels, vessels aground, person overboard, etc. You may also be called upon to provide assistance in the context of certain medical cases that will enable you to demonstrate your skills in the field.

During the summer, you will have the incredible opportunity of leading the exciting life of a mariner specialized in search and rescue. The position you hold will enable you to develop or enhance skills that will serve you throughout your career: professionalism, judgment, teamwork, public relations, instruction and manual work.

Each year, a number of lives are saved, thanks to IRB team members.
