The overcraft can respond to maintenance needs at installations that are inaccessible by road or ship.  She has a full load capacity of 12 tons and is equiped with a removable winch.

The Waban-Aki is an extremely versatile vehicle which can be used for search and rescue operations, navigational aids maintenance, installation of tide markers, pollution prevention and construction works.

Although she will carry some duties in the Gaspe and the Gulf of St. Lawrence areas, the Waban-Aki will most often be deployed in lake St. Louis (Montreal) and in Lake st. Pierre (Trois Rivières). Her home port is Trois Rivières.
